The Christmas break

With Christmas less than two weeks away, most families in England are now deciding how they intend to spend the period from 24th December to 2nd January.

When I was young, the only public holidays at this time of the year were Christmas Day and Boxing Day (26th December).

It was only a few years later that New Years Day (1st Jan) was declared a public holiday in England.

In the past many people took time of work and spent the whole of the Christmas period at home with their families.

Most offices have minimal staff in work during this period.

However with the changes in retail trading that have occurred over the last few years, many people now work on the public holidays of 26th December and 1st January in the large shops in the UK.

Personally, I usually stop work just before Christmas and return to work on or about the 2nd January.

What traditionally happens in France during this period?

Qu’est ce que vous pensez ?

Dave
