Richard

Hi - I'm Richard and I was the Secretary of Solihull Twinning Association for the past three years until recently. I recognise some of the French contributors here whom I have met during our visits to Cholet and their visits to us. We will be hosts once again in April and are looking forward to that 'avec impatience'!

I am not very 'techno-literate' and was introduced to this idea by David a couple of days ago. Until last week I wouldn't have known what a 'blog' was even if one had bitten me on the leg, so please excuse me if I take this new experience a bit slowly!

That's all for now.

Looking forward to some interesting and 'fun' discussions.

Richard

Nice to see you on the blog Richard. I'm so pleased that Dave is spreading "the good news" about our attempts to set up a blog. Let's hope in the future that this might be a real tool to help our two towns to get to know eachother a little better.

My name is Odile, I want to improve my english and communicate with english persons. So I have contacted Juliet who gave me the address of this blog. Today I send you my first message. I hope that my english will be correct enough.

About a garden's experience.
The gloves, boots, shears are very useful. why ? For cutting the rose bushes. It's the workshop that the Cholet city has during four afternoons in the roses area in the Moine Park where 75 different varieties are grouped and taken care by the gardeners of the town hall.
Gardeners taught learners how to cut the roses and the rose bushes. After the lesson, the learners do it themselves. Now the gardeners' learners are going to try in their own garden and why not to come back in the Moine park if they have forgotten how to do it.
What about you in the UK ?

Hello Odile

Gardening is one of my hobbies so I was very interested to see what you have said about gardening and the lessons in Moine Park.

What a good idea!

The friends whom we have in Cholet have taken us to that Park, so we know it.

We don't have any such schemes where I live in Moseley which is about ten miles away from Solihull, but in the next 'village', Kings Heath, there is a school for professional gardeners where I believe classes are run for amateurs.

Last year there was a scheme called 'Moseley in Bloom'. It won a competition. This year it is hoped that the scheme will extend to the area where we live if the people who live here will promise to keep the hanging baskets watered. There is a lamppost right outside our house, so we hope that there will be a basket hanging from it in the summer.

My wife, Jean (pronounced JEEN!) has 'adopted' a small piece of ground around a lamp post in the road near to our house. It has Euonemous plants in it for 'ground cover' and at this moment it is full of crocuses and daffodils - with tulips to come. It is very pretty indeed.

I hope there will still be flowers there when our visitors from Cholet come at the end of next month because we want to look good when they arrive!

That's all for now

Richard

Thank you for your welcome Juliet

I hope to meet you one day - Jean (JEEN!)and I missed the 'booze-up' at Wooten Wawen last year when your group met the Twinners!

Btw, I've had an awful job trying to post my latest message. I tried up until and including 10.0pm last night and 7.0 am this morning without success.

It seems to be OK now though.

Thank you Richard for your message about gardening .I was very interessed to read your comment.Your garden is certainly very beautiful in Spring with crocus, daffodils, tulips and very pleasant to look at it.About my garden ,I had forgotten to say that my roses are from UK(sent by David Austin Roses Limited )There are Janet,Mayflowers and Golden Celebration).I think English people are specialist in roses.
Please could you correct my message because certainly I had made mistakes.
All the best.

Heelo Odile

Do you know, I can find only one mistake in your message - and that is tiny!!

You said " certainly I 'had' made mistakes"

To be totally correct, that should be "I 'have' made mistakes.

You were right in saying "I 'had' forgotten to say that my roses are from the UK", so I don't know how to explain when one uses 'had' or 'have'. Perhaps 'have' happened recently, but 'had' happened a long time ago.

Help, Juliet, please! Perhaps you know the answer.

I am finding a difficulty with this blog. The time is there, but not the date, so I don't know how long ago a message was posted.

Also, unless I look at all threads constantly, I don't know when / if someone has replied.

Any answers for this?
